Unrealised potential

About 5000 QUT students (that’s 12.5%) face financial hardship during their studies each year. They are all from low income backgrounds and many of them often have additional circumstances that make studying a challenge – some are single parents, some come from refugee backgrounds, some have physical or health-related disabilities, some have carer responsibilities and many work long hours to support their studies. All of them have one thing in common. They’ve already taken the first step to changing their lives by studying at QUT. They now need a little extra support to reach their full potential.

For a brighter community tomorrow

QUT believes that all students no matter what their social, economic, or personal backgrounds deserve the opportunity to succeed. It is with this belief that QUT has committed to raising a minimum of $20 million for a perpetual fund over the next ten years to support this important cause.

The QUT Learning Potential Fund was established to provide scholarships and bursaries to support our disadvantaged students. As an endowment fund, each year the capital base is invested and the interest returns fund the scholarships and bursaries for students who need our support. To date, the QUT Learning Potential Fund has provided 4,341 scholarships and bursaries to students in need.

QUT’s Equity team has projected that a fund of this size will generate enough interest to support the scholarship and bursary needs of low income students. Because the fund is a permanent endowment, the income source can be relied upon for students now and for future generations.

QUT graduates contribute across all sectors of society. Today’s QUT Learning Potential Fund students, with your help, will make a profound impact on our community of tomorrow.

A real world commitment

Your gift to the Fund is matched by QUT dollar for dollar. All donations are placed in the permanent endowment fund, with interest on the capital base funding scholarships and bursaries for students who need our support today and in the future. QUT has developed highly accountable and transparent procedures for selecting the neediest students and distributing the bursaries.
