QUT’s Equity Impact Survey has shown that the QUT Learning Potential Fund scholarships and bursaries have a large impact on student’s financial situation. In particular, the scholarships and bursaries help alleviate the stress associated with financial difficulties. Students report that they are able to focus more on their study and reduce their working hours. Furthermore, they say that holding a scholarship makes them feel supported and affirmed by the University.

In May 2008, the QUT Learning Potential Fund had given 4,341 scholarships and bursaries to students in need. These students are now able to use their education to make a significant impact on our community. On their behalf, QUT graciously thanks all of our generous donors to the Fund.

Words of appreciation from recipients:

“Greatly appreciated, and made a major different to myself staying at uni, as I don't have the support of parents or family.  Without this, I would have ended up dropping out and working more. Thanks again.”

“The scholarship has enabled me to buy textbooks and pay expenses associated with studies. Without it, I would have struggled. I feel very lucky to be a recipient and I am very thankful.”

“I just wanted to say that this scholarship has made all the difference. My stress levels were reduced so much, allowing me to lead a normal life again. Thank you!”

“Just thank you very much for supporting struggling students. It has been incredibly helpful for reducing my stress, therefore being able to pay better attention to my studies.”

“I think the bursary is fantastic!  It encourages people from low income situations to be able to stay in university. As a single mother it is hard for me to find time to study while looking after my child let alone time to work also. So this bursary has definitely helped decrease financial stress on me.”

"This scholarship program is very important to students like myself who struggle to make day to day living expenses. It may not be a lot of money but it alleviates stress. It is difficult to stay in uni when your parents have not been to university as they don’t understand the costs associated. I think I would have dropped out a while ago if I didn’t receive the scholarship.”

“I am very grateful for my scholarship - I am a rural student, far from home so it is nice to have the extra support. Thank you.”
