QUT is recognised for its real world connections and strong strategic partnerships with the broader community.

The University engages with the community across a wide range of settings and at many levels reflected in our international focus, our close relationships with relevant professions and with our alumni, in knowledge transfer to industry , government and the broader community and our service activities such as cultural and community development programs.

Through such engagement, and through education and research, QUT makes positive scientific, economic, cultural and social contributions to local and national communities.

Much of the excellent work that we do in the community is made possible by the generous support of philanthropists, alumni and business and government leaders. Some examples of current projects supported include:

  • The Strong and Smart Digital Project
This project is a positive example of QUT partnering with Indigenous communities to support their young people in reaching their potential. The project is helping to improve the multi-media literacy of Indigenous children and others in targeted rural communities such as Cherbourg and Woorabinda by providing training in modern communication media and digital content production skills.
  • Extreme Science Program
The Extreme Science Program is a long-term educational intervention and behavioural change program between QUT and primary and secondary schools throughout south-east Queensland which aims to educate young Australians about science and challenge their young "inquiring minds".
  • Traditional Indigenous Games Project
This innovative program brings together schools and the wider community to achieve reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people through healthy activity, fun and cultural learning. QUT has partnered with several Indigenous communities including Weipa, Cunnamulla, Cherbourg and Stradbroke Island in this health and cultural program which has been successful in re-introducing traditional indigenous games as a cultural thread to build pride, enhance social cohesion and increase physical activity amongst primary and secondary children.

As we look to the future, your involvement in projects such as these will ensure that the University continues to build on its strong reputation for delivering real benefits to the community, and making a real difference.
