Why should I support QUT by making a gift?
QUT makes significant changes to our community. Through education, research and community service, the University shapes who we are and how we live, work and play. As staff, we understand this more than most. A gift to QUT will make a difference because education is important to our future; because our very best researchers work to improve our lives; and because together we can create a better future.
Giving to QUT is personal choice and each staff member has unique reasons for giving. QUT staff already give their time, dedication, skills and intellect to QUT because they believe in the organisation’s vision. Financially supporting QUT’s priorities is another way to give. Read why other staff give.
What are the goals of the Staff Giving Program?
The long term goal for the program is to achieve a high level of staff participation in staff giving. Your participation (not the size of your gift) sends a powerful message to our students, parents, alumni and external community that we are firm believers in QUT’s vision.
In 2007, we hope to raise $36,000 from staff towards a range of giving areas.
Who is coordinating the Program?
The Staff Giving Program is coordinated by the Development Office, with support from Staff Champions.
Can I support more than one area?
How much of my gift will be deducted for administration fees?
The University deducts no administration fees from your gift. 100% of your gift goes directly to your choice of fund. In fact, in some instances, QUT will match your gift dollar-for-dollar, for example, the Learning Potential Fund and QUT Endowment.
How much should I give?
Every gift counts. The focus of the program is to increase staff participation and all gifts, regardless of size, assist the priority areas of QUT. Gifts over $2 are tax-deductible. Many staff start their payroll gift with $5 per fortnight.
What is payroll giving?
Payroll giving is easy, affordable and tax effective. Your donation is deducted from your fortnightly pay using your pre-tax salary.
For example, a ten dollar pre-tax donation costs only $7 after the automatic tax deduction, assuming the employee is on the marginal tax rate of 30%. The full $10 goes into your designated fund.
Payroll deduction eliminates the needs to collect receipts (your payment summary and payslip record your receipt), which helps us reduce costs. You can upgrade, change or stop your payroll deduction at any time, simply by letting us know in writing by email development@qut.edu.au or via internal mail to Development Office, Level 4, O Block Podium, Gardens Point Campus.
Is my gift kept confidential?
Yes, your personal details and gift amounts are kept strictly confidential and only accessed by those responsible for fundraising and gift processing. If you would prefer not to be contacted for progress reports on your gifts or funds, or prefer to keep your gift anonymous, please let us know and we will note this on your record.
Can my donation be leveraged to provide even greater benefit?
Gifts to the QUT Learning Potential Fund and the QUT Endowment Fund are matched dollar for dollar by QUT, providing even greater benefit.
Is my donation tax deductible?
One-off donations over $2 and via credit card or other payment methods are tax-deductible and you will be issued with a receipt. Donations made by payroll deduction have already claimed a tax benefit and are therefore you will not need to claim it when lodging your tax return.
How do I direct students in need to the Learning Potential Fund?
Learning Potential Fund scholarships and bursaries are distributed through the Equity Section. Contact the Equity Section.

What are Staff Champions?
QUT’s Development Office are reaching out to current staff donors to find staff champions. These volunteers may help with testimonials, event planning, or form part of the first staff giving committee. It is hoped that this committee will have a broad representation of academic and professional staff across Faculties and Divisions.
This committee will provide advice on the fundraising priorities and direction for staff giving and will also assist with fundraising strategies and activities.
If you are interested in finding out more about the committee, please contact the Development Office, on 3138 1652 or development@qut.edu.au.
